I'm not out to give anyone the mistaken impression that homeschooling is all smiles and giggles and roses. I'm usually really upbeat and confident about homeschooling because it's 90% completely wonderful, and the overarching belief that the rest of the world has is that homeschooling is some sort of atrocity, so I feel the need to set the record straight and sing its praises as often as possible.
However.
In an effort to never mislead any of you, we do have our bad days of school. Today was one of them.
I have a seven-year-old who is prone to whining and tantruming. Yes, still. I came to the conclusion today that I need to begin with the hardest and/or most tedious subjects first, because by the time we get to them (Language Arts and Writing, in case you were wondering), she has become a crazy banshee. Here are some excerpts from our morning:
Mom: Hannah, write your sentence.
Hannah: I caaaaaaannnn't. My fingers are going to fall off.
Mom: Hannah, write your sentence.
Hannah: I caaaaaaannnn't. My fingers are going to fall off.
Mom: Hannah, write your sentence.
Hannah: I caaaaaaannnn't. My fingers are going to fall off.
Mom: [lying head down on table]
Mom: Just do it. You're going to make me explode!
Hannah: Yeah, yeah, explode, explode!
later...
Hannah: [staring into space]
Mom: I asked you why do we say 'me' instead of 'I'?
Hannah: [staring into space]
Mom: I asked you why do we say 'me' instead of 'I'?
Hannah: [starts to laugh]
Mom: What, what, WHAT???!!!
Hannah: I was thinking it would be fun to see you EXPLODE!
It's a good thing this is only that ten percent.
