In case you missed Social Cues 101, let me be the one to tell you something. The only appropriate response to anyone's news of a new baby is CONGRATULATIONS. That's IT. I don't care if you personally find the news worth congratulating or not, it's just basic decency. Whether it is a first child, fourth child, eighteenth child, I DON'T CARE.
Here's a list of some absolutely inappropriate and rude responses to aforementioned news:
1. Staring in dumbfounded shock and walking away.
2. Shaking your head while frowning.
3. "Oh no! An oops?"
4. "Guess NFP really doesn't work, does it?"
5. "WHY????"
6. "How in the world are you going to do it?"
7. "Children are so expensive!"
8. "Did you plan this?"
Think these comments in your head, gossip about it all you want while out of earshot, I don't care. But please have some decency and don't act disappointed or horrified at the prospect. I know it is hard to understand, but some people find children not only blessings but an overall societal good--especially when brought into strong, stable, loving, and educated homes.
Just sign me,
Overpopulating the world, one diabolical fetus at a time!
